Since 1938, when the League of the Daughters of Miriam first began, dedicated individuals have organized in support of Daughters of Miriam Center/The Gallen Institute.  These groups have grown and expanded, adapting and changing to meet the needs of the skilled nursing home residents, apartment tenants and day center clients of the Center, finally emerging as the Daughters of Miriam Auxiliary, the organization which serves the facility today.

Daughters of Miriam Auxiliary was founded in 1994 when the Clifton-Passaic Auxiliary, Paterson Auxiliary and Fair Lawn League merged.  In an effort to consolidate resources and offer more focused services, the auxiliaries joined forces to create the present organization.

Members of the Auxiliary form the core of the dedicated volunteer staff at Daughters of Miriam Center.  Working with employees in offices, transporting patients, manning the Miriam Apartments gift shop and staffing the Helen Sanders Thrift Shop, auxiliary personnel touch on every aspect of Center life.  Their presence, whether they are visiting residents or helping staff, is priceless.

Not content to just volunteer, the Daughters of Miriam Auxiliary spearheads its own fund-raising efforts.  Through annual fund-raisers such as raffle sales, jewelry and handbag sales, and special events, including trips to Atlantic City, they help to bring in monies to support the Center.  Their recent donations have funded renovations of the second floor elevator lobby and the bathrooms in the main lobby.  In addition, activities in the Marcus Auditorium have been enhanced by the new lighting and window treatments provided by the auxiliary.

While the Daughters of Miriam Auxiliary serves the Center, it also provides a myriad of social opportunities for its members.  Card parties, museum trips, luncheons and meetings bring members together to enjoy each others’ company.  Lasting friendships are formed among people united in support of Daughters of Miriam Center/The Gallen Institute.  Whether greeting each other in halls, sitting down to chat over lunch, or spending an afternoon touring on a trip, the camaraderie they share is obvious.
